OUR BADGE
The School badge symbolises Strength, Stability and Life. The prominent lion, which also appears in the Simon's Town Municipality coat-of-arms and the Navy insignia, is a symbol of strength and leadership. The crossed anchors represent symbols of stability and steadfastness and the sea symbolises life and growth. Fac et Spera, the school's motto sings out a message for all - "Do and Hope".
HISTORY
The first attempt at establishing a school in Simon's Town was in 1812. The school was run by Mr. B van Duren from Holland, but was closed in 1820 due to lack of support. In 1815 an English Medium, fee-paying school was established to accommodate the Royal Navy.
The new Simon's Town School was opened in 1894 and the first official headmaster was Adam George Macleod. This school was housed in the building which can be seen in St. Georges Street. In 1896 it moved to a new building ( the present Municipal offices) and in 1953 moved to it's present site off Harrington Rd. Extensive expansions were made in the 1970's to cater for the towns increasing population. The school opened it's doors to all races and cultures in 1991 and prides itself on being a true community school. While being proud of it's past, this school meets the future with optimism and hope.
In our school at Simon's Town, with our motto high
we are training mind and body as the years go by
to add our names to Honour's Roll and ever to be proud
of friendships madeand work well done
So let us sing out loud
Fac et Spera is our motto
Do and hope for you and me
High to hold our school's proud name
Let this our watch-word be.
